100+ DPR under AMRUT for sewerage & STP systems (100 KLD – 13 MLD STP)

Under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), a significant number of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) have been prepared for sewerage and Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) projects across India, focusing on capacities ranging from 100 KLD (0.1 MLD) to 13 MLD and beyond. Key Highlights of AMRUT Sewerage & STP Projects

Total Scope: As of 2026, 592 sewerage/septage projects worth ₹67,607 crore are approved under AMRUT 2.0, adding over 6,739 MLD in capacity.
Focus on Small-to-Medium STPs: The 100 KLD – 13 MLD range is crucial for decentralized sewage management in smaller towns and peripheral urban areas.
Technology Focus: Modern plants utilize advanced technologies like MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor), SBR (Sequential Batch Reactor), and RMBR (Rotating Membrane Bio-reactor).
Kerala Case Study: Kerala has a high concentration of such DPRs, implementing 115 sewerage works under AMRUT, including:
- 5 MLD STP at Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram (Commissioned).
- 5 MLD STP at Elamkulam, Kochi (Commissioned).
- 1 MLD STP at Padannapalam, Kannur (Commissioned).

Treatment Approach: Emphasis on Interception and Diversion (I&D) and decentralized, eco-friendly STPs.
Components: Sewer network lines (HDPE/DI pipes), lifting stations, pumping mains, STP construction, and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) for monitoring.
Reuse Strategy: Treated sewage is mandated for reuse in gardening, toilet flushing, and industrial purposes.

Kochi: 105 KLD STP for RAY Flat, 1 MLD FSTP at Brahmapuram, 5 MLD STP at Elamkulam.
