Under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) 2.0 (2021-2026), the focus on liquid waste management has been significantly strengthened. While large-scale sewage treatment is often covered under the AMRUT scheme, SBM-U 2.0 specially targets cities with less than 1 lakh population for used water management, focusing on faecal sludge and septage management.
